The Most Exciting Ingredients for Delicious USA 2021

The Delicious USA festival is back for its third year from July 1 to July 31 2021! Featuring a range of diverse restaurants across Hong Kong showcasing creative dishes using the finest in the U.S. produce. We’ll be announcing the full list of participating restaurants in June but ahead of this we’d like to give you an exclusive look at some of the most exciting ingredients to expect throughout this truly delicious, month-long festival.

Recently, we hosted an exclusive tasting event for local chefs to give them a taste of the exciting ingredients available. This tasting included a five course menu highlighting some of the best ingredients the USA has to offer. Here’s a look at what these lucky chefs got to sample, and a look at what you’ll be able to taste as soon as Delicious USA begins!

Maine Lobster

You’ve undoubtedly already heard of this very famous crustacean. Also known as the American Lobster, Maine Lobster is found in cold waters along the Atlantic coast of North America. Maine has very stringent fishing regulations which prevent lobster catchers from catching lobsters that are too small or too large, ensuring that you‘ll get the meatiest and best tasting lobster! The lobster tails are a particularly popular part to eat and our chef used these tasty tails to make a delectable lobster ravioli with shellfish sauce.

Liquid Eggs

Another important ingredient used in the lobster ravioli was U.S. liquid eggs. This groundbreaking ingredient boxes whole eggs, egg yolks or egg whites in liquid form. This significantly reduces labor costs and waste from shelling and breakage of eggs. Liquid eggs are also pasteurized to destroy salmonella and other bacteria ensuring safety and quality.

U.S. Rock Cornish Game Hen

Despite its name, Cornish Game Hen is neither Cornish nor is it actually a game and it’s not even necessarily a female bird! Cornish Game Hen actually originated in Connecticut when a farmer began cross-breeding Cornish and White Plymouth Rock chickens to produce the best tasting poultry for a single serving. Cornish Game Hen meat is incredibly tender and soaks up any sauce beautifully. Our chefs sampled U.S. Cornish Game Hen which was served with a delectable mushroom sauce and California Pistachios.

California Pistachios

Speaking of California Pistachios, did you know that these pretty little nuts are one of the healthiest, lowest-calorie and protein-packed snacks around? The U.S. is the world’s leading pistachio producer with pistachio trees thriving in California’s warm climate. Not only are pistachio nuts full of healthy nutrients, their deliciously rich and creamy texture makes them a delight to eat raw or to use in cooking.

Pork Short Ribs

Is there anything more satisfying than sticky, sweet and meaty pork ribs? U.S. Snake River Farms Kurobuta Pork Short Ribs are extremely juicy and flavorful. These ribs are not the pork version of beef short ribs but rather the continuation of the baby back rib section as it extends into the shoulder, giving carnivores twice as much meat as regular ribs. While our chefs ate these indulgent pork short ribs with swiss chard and U.S. dried figs, these meaty treats are suited to absolutely any rib recipe.

U.S. Specialty Cheese

While you may think of France or Italy when you hear the word cheese, the U.S. is actually the world’s largest cheese producer. The U.S. is also home to the largest variety of cheeses on the planet with over 1,000 varieties available. With a strong focus on high-quality ingredients and production techniques, it’s no wonder that the U.S. boasts many award-winning cheeses. Specialty cheeses are made in smaller factories and consist of high-end versions of well-known cheeses, such as Monterey dry jack or uniquely crafted, new cheeses.

USA Pear

To end off on a sweet note, our chefs got a real Southern treat in the form of Southern Pecan Rum Pie with USA Pear Purée. There are ten different pear varieties but we chose to highlight the red and green Anjou pears. These juicy and sweet pears are perfectly eaten fresh or baked in desserts, paired with sweet or savory eats, and can even be grilled at your summer BBQ.
